First Ever Visit and Food Review at The Tan Hill Inn - Britain's Highest Inn
My first ever visit to Britain's highest Inn, Tan Hill, which stands at 1732 feet above sea level and sits on a Moor in the middle of nowhere. A place I have always wanted to visit and has a good reputation for food, so with their website boasting 3 thousand 5 star reviews, I decided to give the food a go, ordering a main and dessert off their main menu, as opposed to the smaller appetites menu. The inn was packed, despite it being mid week but the school holidays ensure a constant supply of weary travellers calling in for food and sustenance on a typically cold and gloomy Yorkshire day. Watch on for what I found.....

Glaramara & Allen Crags via Hind Gill - The Ultimate Guide!
Переглядів 3837 годин тому
Glaramara via Hind Gill and then on to Allen Crags, a walk I have been putting off for almost 18 months. Sometimes a walk gets into your head and this one had done that to me! I did not fancy Hind Gill at all, especially after a few 'experienced' walking friends had shared their experience of dropping down from Hind Gill and expressing how steep and awful the descent was. I decided that I would...
My First Every Visit to the New Wendy's at Whitby - Oh Dear!
Переглядів 3,8 тис.16 годин тому
A brand new Wendy's has opened in Whitby North Yorkshire, much to the annoyance of many local people. As I had never tired a Wendy's meal before or been inside one of their franchise, I thought I would try something from their breakfast menu, than, after a coastal walk, I would come back and try their lunch menu, to see what all the fuss was about - I was shocked at what I found out! If you wan...
My Favourite North Yorkshire Coastal Walk

A glorious days walking along the North Yorkshire coastline starting at Whitby Abbey and continuing along the coast for 6.5 miles to Robin Hoods Bay, which is my favourite coastal walk in North Yorkshire. I park at the Whitby park n ride and get the bus into Whitby harbour before climbing the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey, which is the start of the walk and a perfect spot to fly my drone. The we...
Low Fell, Loweswater Fell and Fellbarrow

In my opinion, this has to be The Best View in the Lake District from a Small Fell and most people do not even go there! I parked on the road side just outside the small hamlet of Thackthewaite and walked up the road to the start of the walk, signposted (Low Fell) right through the farmyard in the small hamlet. I had intended (like most people) to just do the two Wainwright Fells of Low Fell an...

Testing the FitVille Men's Low-Sturdy Core Hiking Shoes in the Woods

I was sent the FitVille Men's Low-Sturdy Core Hiking Shoes to review and took them out on a 3 hour walk in the woods, over uneven ground, to give them a good test. I took then straight out of the box, as I wanted to see what the fit was like, what the comfort level was like and also how well they supported my feet. I found them to be very springy, which helped cushion any impact on my knees whi...
The Day I Nearly Gave Up! Heaven and Hell on Burnbank Fell, Blake Fell and Gravel Fell

The only time in all the years I have been hiking that I almost gave up and felt, not only lost but almost on the brink of total exhaustion. The day started off brilliantly, I parked at the free car pack at Maggie's Bridge, next to Loweswater and started the long climb up to the first fell of the day Burnbank Fell. The weather was amazing and the views over to the surrounding fells over Loweswa...

Hi Alan, OMGoodness, You are a brave soul You hiked there is no clear hiking markers are placed??? Did you have any doubt all the time that you may be hiking on the wrong path??? Full of arduous trails. I believe your gopro's resolution is 4K...the views are really paid off by. They are beyond extraordinary. I also enjoy your documentation as you proceed. Another exceptional Hike! Bravo! Sorry I just got back from my filming trip that left me cuts and bruises and my body is aching hahah See you next time

We took a party of about 12 up there for a car owners club tour about 12/13 years ago. I think the landlord has changed since then. The food was OK but some of our party had finished before others had started their food. The drive from Richmond through Reeth, Gunnerside, and Keld and over the moor to the Inn was fantastic.

I do like the look of this isolated location Alan , those people that got stuck in at the Oasis tribute in the snow must have had a lovely time up here, we would have loved it 😃The food seemed great but I agree for £20 It could have done with a bit more beef, that hotpot looked delicious, just had one ourselves tonight coincidently and the dessert looked so good too. It's great that you can wildcamp as well but such a shame that people don't clean up afterwards. Good that you gave an honest review 👍~ Anna

We think those are our favourite drone shots so far, absolutely stunning! We have not climbed Glaramara, if we do go future we shall definitely be taking your advice and avoid coming down via the Hind Gill route, that would be very sketchy in the wet😮. We totally agree with you Alan, it isn't a race, days like this in the fells are to be enjoyed, with plenty of stops to take in the views, we never rush either! Paid parking at Seathwaite? 🧐 does look a slippery and overgrown ascent, would not like to descend that way. I want to be still doing these mountains forever! I have OS maps it’s invaluable, Jill still manages to get us lost on it! Glare area has some questionable routes! With all that slippy grass it looks hazardous. Wouldn’t be an Alan Metalman video without a bit of danger, too much salt on those Wendy’s chips last week! 😂 just kidding that was definitely dangerous, excited for the Popeyes review although I don’t know where our nearest one is. Amazing drone shots, not a bird in sight, im still getting attacked on all my coastal attempts. It’s hard filming with two poles. We love the poles, essential for prolonged descents. I’m hoping we get away with sneaking them in our hand luggage to the Dolomites, if we don’t we will buy a set over there. There must be a route saved on OS by someone that has done this walk? Now thats a nice path. Stunning tarn. Ah the lovely ice cream box (rescue shed) I remember seeing that coming down from Great Gable. Lovely looking cattle. Looks like a great day out 👍

You can get free parking on the roadside to the farm but tractors pulling trailers run up and down to the farm all day and over the years some have come back to their car with half the door off, so I would rather pay £5 for safety. It was a steep up, very steep and very slippery, so real pleased when I (eventually) hit the top and still be lucky (for far) with birds and my drone, still nervous sending it up and still relived when it is safely tucked back up in it's case again lol. Real pleased those cattle were as tired as me at the end. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

It's a walk I have been putting off and putting off, so when I finally realised it was done I would never have to climb it again, so ecstatic was an understatement lol. A real tiring day but still an awesome day. Thanks very much for watching, real good of you, cheers Alan

I felt your pain, Alan, you suffered throughout yet you had the sunshine and the views. That route up to Glaramara didn't look good at all. I've no experience of it but I don't think I want any either!! OS maps are great but I don't think they are always right. The stretcher box brought back great memories! I'm still smarting from the fact you got to the top of Great Gable before us!! Andrea still talks about that day. You still sounded a bit out of puff but to do those two fell s and the detours means you're definitely improving. Well done, regards, Ashley

I was blowing hard on this one and the amount of footage spoilt by me coughing but that goodness I am feeling so much better this week but typically the weather has turned and it is wet all this week and most of nest too :o(. I have very fond memories of that Kirk Fell/Great Gable day out - tired memories but still, very fond memories. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Haha, I could have done with an extra breath or two on this hike and man that route up Hind Gill was steep, real steep, I just hope the people who I met and said they were going down that way go down okay. Thanks very much for watching, real good of you, cheers Alan

Hi Alan haha that sneeze was great, louder than Alf haha but a shame you're still struggling after the pneumonia. Another gorgeous place and not bad price for parking all day, love the coffee machine they have there. A nice quiet hike which we definitely prefer but it did seem hard and a bit precarious with it being steep and slippery and rocky, scary that there was no real path .. The ferns were really pretty though, I do love ferns and the views all around were so pretty. I loved the sun breaking through. You did have such amazing views though. You are so good when you meet people and seen to really enjoy it, they all seem to know you 😃 It must have been so good when you got on top a proper path again, that was great to see 👍~ Anna

Yes, my chest just is not as strong as it was and is so frustrating but you got to just keep plugging on. This walk turned out to be even harder than I was expecting, so real pleased I can finally put it behind me and thank goodness there was a path around those ferns lol. I always enjoy bumping into people on the trail and 99.9% of the time the people are always so friendly, always a bonus as well when someone says "hey I love watching your videos", makes all the hard work and early mornings so worthwhile. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

That was quite a day out all in all. About 30 odd years ago Linda and I went down Hind Gill or at least somewhere near it as it started to get dark. Long time ago so can't quite remember details. Those green dashed lines on the map mark Right of Way - doesn't mean there is really a path. It may be there but you can't rely on it. The black dashed lines are actually paths. Great video though. Cheers, Roger

I use the GoPro Hero 10 and always shoot at 2.7K, which I am happy enough with. To be honest, my PC is quite old, so if I did film 4K footage the computer would not be able to cope with it. Yes, that was a challenging route and one I had been putting off for a while now but I knew that at some point it would have to be done - so pleased I have finally done it. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan

  • @andrewlonsdale..walkingthewalk

Great advice Alan....myself and mel descended that route in January what could be said foolishly with ice on the bottom ,we lost the light by the time we hit the wall ...very sketchy os route indeed ..pleased you finally cracked it ⛰️👍. ..ATB Andrew

Thanks very much for watching and for me, it was bad enough going up, so I would hate to have gone down that way and I met two really nice couples who were taking Hind Gill down, just because it was shown as a route on OS maps and had no idea at how steep it was. Good to hear you both got down safely too, cheers Alan

Hello Alan Thank you so much for sharing this video. We don't have Wendy's Burger restaurants in DK, though we have one Wendy's pit in Herning in Jylland It's about 8 hours with trains from this town I'm living in. But again, one of the reasons for that we don't have a Wendy restaurants here are that they have been talking about that they are using to much salt in their food and we have rules here, in this country (EU rules must be observed) about how much salt that would be allowed to be in the meat and potatoes chips (generally all kind of food)! So there's one of the biggest reasons for not having a Wendy's, the other one is that we already have a lots of fast foods restaurants.. McDonald's /Burger King / Sunset B / Pizza restaurants in 1000/Rib steaks house / Chinese foods /Mexicans foods / and many more..! Again thanks Alan for putting your own health on a game to check it out and do a rapport from there after 👍🏼☑️ You are so Cool my friend It could be good if you could do more videos like this one in the future ❤ Have a good new week

I do intend to do more food reviews in the future and this was my first ever visit to a Wendy's before, I had heard the name but never been in or even tried one of their burgers before, so it was an interesting experience for me. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan
